good bag for morning r.a.f. hitting BACK french coast ablaze Eighteen German raiders were shot down this morning. Londoners were surprised to see 15 planes flying over the city in broad daylight, but all questions were silenced shortly after 10 a.m. when it became known that at least 14 raiders had paid the penalty for their rashness. Four others were brought down later. A raider shot down by anti-air-craft fire shortly before midnight brought yesterday's total to 34. Eight British planes were lost but only three pilots are missing. Raiders bombed London indiscriminately through the night. Buildings were damaged and fires were caused. Most of them were soon put out. Night Raids on Enemy.
The Royal Air Force renewed its attack last night on Channel ports, Kiel and other German towns. Interested watchers on the English shore had a grandstand view. The whole French coastline was lit by fires. It seemed that the raiders were giving special attention to a point near Calais where guns have been placed for shelling Dover. Watchers on the English coast cheered relays of bombers as they swept over the Channel to attack invasion bases. An ayalanche of bombs lit up the sky.
