Rugby. Sept. 24. The Parliamentary Secretary to the [Ministry of Labour, Mr. R. Assheton, ' who is chairman of the Government works and building priority committee, ! announcos that direct Government control over building and civil engineering works by a licensing system will come into operation on October 7. No licensc will be needed for operations undertaken bv a Government department. or for operations to be paid for in whole or in part by the Government. or for operations costing less than £500 and maintenance works, repairs or decorations. Special arrangements have been made to release controlled material for urgent building work necessitated by air raid damage.
