The Rev. B. C. Nottage, of the New Hebrides Presbyterian Mission, at present on furlough in New Zealand, has forwarded his resignation to the missions committee for health reasons. Mr. S. H. Sofield, at present assistanthouse manager of the Waikato Hospital Board, has been appointed house manager at the Grey Hospital, Greymouth, from a large number of applicants. Sir Ernest Roberts, Rangoon, Chief Justice of the High Court in Burma, arrived at Auckland by the Monterey from Sydney recently on a short visit to New Zealand. Mr. Justice C. M. Murray-Aynsley, a judge of the Supreme Court of the Straits Settlemeqts, who is visiting New Zealand, has arrived at Wellington from Auckland. He was accompanied by Mrs. Murray-Aynsley. Major J. A. McQueen, M.C., formerly of the New Plymouth railway staff, and now of Marton, is visiting New Plymouth prior to going into camp at Waverley with the First Battalion, Taranaki Regiment. Mr. F. L. Frost, M.P., will leave New Plymouth by the express this morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Government Party. As the House resumes on Tuesday Mr. Frost will not return to New Plymouth until Saturday week. Mr. F. G. Farrell has been nominated unopposed as president of the Automobile Association (Auckland) for a fifth term, and the appointment will be confirmed at the annual meeting. He has been a member of the association for 30 years, and has served on the council since 1920. Mr. L. Stewart, who has been on the staff at St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, for about 20 years, will be headmaster during the absence of LieutenantColonel J. B. Mawson in the military forces. Mr. Stewart served with the Royal Air Force in the Great War. Mrs. W. F. Southam, New Plymouth, has received advice that her services as a nursing sister will be required by the military authorities. Mrs. Southam was at one time on the staff of tbe New Plymouth hospital and luis for scvcral years been secretary of the New Plymouth Trained Nurses' Association. She organised and was matron of Ihe V.A.D. hospital at the Ncw Plymouth air force station during an influenza epidemic.
