WOMEN'S DIVISION
Waverley: The branch held its 13th birthday party recently. Mrs. J. Newland presided. A bring and buy stall was held during the afternoon to raise funds for the fighting machine, sponsored by the W.D.F.U. branches in New Zealand. A birthday cake presented by Mrs. W. R. S. Brewer was won by Mrs. T. Linehan. Miss Betty Elmslie won a competition. Mrs. J. P. Stewart entertained with two voeal solos, Mrs. P. V. Graves playing the accompaniments, and Miss Gabrielle Morrison presented two comic recitations. Mrs. Newland spoke of work being accomplished by the division at Waverley and districts throughout New Zealand, Mrs. Wickham, Dominion president, congratulated the branch on attaining its 13th birthday and on the good work and progress made over that period. Mrs. Newland described the W.D.F.U. and Women's Institute scheme in New Zealand for sending eggs to England. Hawkes Bay was already sending large numbers away and Mrs. Newland had received all particulars from them. Any eggs not up to standard for preserving were made into pulp and sent to England. Eggs m'ust not be more than three or four days old and must not be washed. They would be crated and sent to Wellington to be graded and preserved before being sent to England. Very probably they would be sent to hospitals there as a gift from the New Zealand W.D.F.U. and Women's Institute.
