"TURNABOUT" AT THE STATE.
THORNE SMITH'S RIOTOUS NOVEL. Hal Roach, who produced Thorne Smith's famous "Topper" series, has now filmed this brilliant author's hilanous comedy "Turnabout." which begin^ today at the State Theatre. In this new production is seen a lovely newcomer to the screen, Carole Landis, who is ^ costarred with John Hubbard. A brilliant cast of supporfing players includes Adolphe Menjou, William Gargan, Mary Astor and Donald Mieek. Tlie hilarious plot concerns the high jinks produced vtiien Mrs. Willows and her husband change sexes. The svelte, shapely Miss Landis steps into her husband's oversized shoes and experiments with the problems faced by Ihe male portion of humanity. Six-foot, broad-should€i€d Hubbard becomes a fashionable society matron and flutters about at cocktail parties while his wife wears the pants— literally. After the hero and heroine change places and sexes, chaos and confusion ensue. The husband s business partners cannot understand the sudden feminity of their associate, who manages to cause all sorts of damage to the prestige of the firm and to lose it most of its valuable clientele. Back home, the same sort of thing happens, for the somewhat masculine looking lady of the house is hardly proficient with the servants and no match for the correct social life. How the picture winds up provides the story with a surprise climax full of unexpected happenings and laugh-filled incidents. The supporting programme includes "Canada at W'ar," being the latest issue of the "March of Time series, showing Canada's war activities on all fronts. Box plans are at Gilmour's, land and estate agents.
