Manpower Matters. - With the appointment of a full time secretary the Taranaki manpower committee will occupy offices of its own at New Plymouth. Absence of Signs. The absence of signs on shops and delivery vans would make it difficult for invaders to find their way about London, it is suggested in a letter received at Hawera. Taranaki Daffodil Championship. The Taranaki Horticultural Association open daffodil championship, decided at St. Andrew's show at Inglewood yesterday, was won by L. Lewis, Eltham, with a Leedsii Slemish. Contract System on Wharvcs. New Plymouth watersiders will commence work under the co-operative contract system to-day following a visit by Messrs. R. E. Price and James Roberts, of the Waterfront Control Comm/ssion. Only For Nation. Petrol restrictions were not for a moment intended to benefit the railways, but were for the great cause of the British nation, said the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Railways, at Stratford yesterday. Scout Anniversary. Scouts from Hawera and the surrounding districts who had gathered to celebrate the thirty-first anniversary of the Hawera Boy Scouts' Association were addressed by Mr. H. J. L. Cooksey, commissioner of the New Zealand Boy Scouts' Association. Railcar Every Day. About the beginning of December the present tri-weekly Wellington-Taranaki railcar service will be made a daily service for a trial period of three months. This promise was made to Taranaki Chamber of Commerce delegates when they approached the Minister of Railways at Stratford.
