soldiers' comfort fund Under the direction of Mr. S. E. Carson, Eltham amateur performers presented a variety entertainment m the Eltham town hall on Wednesday evening. Every item was well preesnted and enthusiastically received by the capacity house. Mrs. C. A. Wilkinson. president of the Eltham soldiers' comforts committee, to which the proceeds are to be given, thanked all who were responsible for for such nn exccllent entertainment and for the efforts to assist the comforts committee. Mr. Carson ttianked all of the performers for the manner in which they had attended practices and rehearsals making special mention of country members who, despite benzine restrictions, had been regular attenders. He thanked all of the house staff, stage assistants and others who had given their wholehearted support. The programme was: Opening chorus, "Come to the Show," the company; solo, "Gianniana Mia," Syd. Payne; tap ballet, Misses Margaret Lawrence (soloist), Wilma Marr, Jean Scobie, Eileen Peebles, Betty Brooke-Taylor, P. Crosbie, D. Pepperell; sketch, "Suciden Death," Messrs. F. Silver, Les Haycock, Ron Slater and Jack Simpson; song and ballet, "Alice Blue Gown," Misses Jeanne Dempsey (soloist), Audrey Carncross, Gladys Carlson, Audrey Carlson, Eileen Peebles, Margaret Lawrence, Jean Elstone, Betty Brooke-Taylor, Doreen Pepperell, Betty Bowler and Pauline Peebles; solo, "The Barber," Mr. F. Silver; tap duo, Miss Margaret Lawrence and Mr. Dick Shepherd; sketch, "Story Without Words," Miss Doreen Pepperell and Mr. Les Haycock; solo, "The Donkey Serenade," Mr. Syd.
