BLOOMS AT HAWERA
SPRING SHOW SUCCESS
St. Mary's hall, Hawera, was again yesterday a popular rendezvous for gardening enthusiasts at the concluding sessi'ons of the. annual spring flower show of St. Mary's church. Despite wartime necessities and the lateness for daffodil entries, there has this year been a slight increase in entries, with 461 exhibits compared with 400 last year. It is expected that the proceeds, which are to aid church funds, will be up to the average of previous years. The fifth count for the points prizes resulted:— Daffodils: Open class, Mrs. A. Phillips; amateur class, Mr. F. A. Quin; novice, Mrs. E. R. Honeyfield and Mrs. Madgwick; Whitby James challenge trophy points prize, Mrs. A. Phillips. Decorative: Mrs. V. Stratton. . Cooking: Mrs. Paterson. Children under 16, decorative: Josie Smith. An orchestra conducted by Mrs. A. K. Fyson and comprising Mesdames R. Graham, A. J. Corrigan, L. H. Giblin, A. Thomson and Misses D. Pinson and F. Landers presented musical items yesterd.;'.
