DRAMA LEAGUE READING

Tuesday evening's play-reading arranged by the South Taranaki area of the British Drama League, at the institute rooms, Princes Street, was an outstanding success. The play chosen was G. B. Shaw's satirical comedy, "You Never Can Tell," depicting Mrs. Lanfrey Clandon, authoress of some local repute. who. after bringing up her family in the ultra-modern "new freedom" ideas of Ihe suflragettes during her 20 years of isolation at Madeira. finds lier modern ity hopelessly outmoded on their return to England. The reading, under the direction of Mrs. T. F. McKenzie, was excellently cast, the readers being Mesdames A. J. Corrigan and B.- W. Thomas. Miss Cushla Tonks and Messrs. W. W. Thomas, W. S. Gibson, A. Paull, W. O'Shannessy, G. Chuck and C. Boyce. Opportunity was taken to farewell the president, Mr. W. O'Shannessy, who is to leave next week for camp, Mr. Gibson j expressing the good wishes of the affili- , ated groups. A drive for new members , was mentioned by Mrs. T. F. McKenzie, |

who announced the stage production of the famous comedy-thriller, "Mystery at Green Arches," to be presented before Christmas for patriotic funds. " •* " " '
