YOUNGER MEN'S AID

RAISING HAWERA FUNDS PATRIOTIC APPEAL WORK COMMITTEE'S DESIRE The services of the younger business men of Hawera are to be enlisted to assist with the appeal for patriotic funds, according to a decision made at a meeting of the Hawera and District Citizens' Patriotic Committee last night. The proposal is that the younger men should be invited to form a sub-committee to conduct moneyraising projects. Appreciation of the efforts of the Hawera committee of the Hawera stock firms, banks and legal offices, which raised £160 by means of a Rugby gala day, was expressed by the chairman, Mr. L. H. Clapham. "I think it \would be advisable if we were to invite these people to form a sub-committee to conduct gymkhanas and other moneymaking functions, he said. Support for this contention was expressed by Mr. W. V. Patterson and it was argued that members of the combined committee should be invited to attend a public meeting at Hawera on Tuesday when the secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr. G. A. Hayden, will give an address. Hawera contributions to the provincial fund totalled £2460 8s 6d, reported the secretary, Mr. J. W. J. Harding. Of that amount £626 was allocated for the rehabilitation of soldiers. To date 360 packets of cigarettes had been given to men going to camp and 138 belts were given to men going overseas.
