EARLY MATINEE TO-MORROW.
"DAD RUDD, M.P." AT MAYFAIR. Cinesound's Australian comedy, "Dad Rudd, M.P.," featuring Bert Bailey as "Dad" and Fred MacDonald as "Dave," is still drawing record crowds at the Mayfair Theatre, New Plymouth. The season ends to-morrow night at 8 o'clock. For the convenience of country patrons the matiness on Friday afternoon will begin at 1.30. To-day's performances are at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Since the days of "On Our Selection" the Rudds have prospered; the old man's in Parliament now, and "Dave," "Mura" and the rest of the family are endeavouring to live up to Dad's new status. Thus, their latest film, "Dad Rudd, M.P.," is a modern, streamlined story that's full of fun, but whilst comedy is the predominant. note, the film is also rich in true Australian sentiment and a note of drama is introduced with Dad's political fight for a great national necessity, water conservation. For the past four nights residents from country districts have travelled many miles to see Australia's most popular family on the Mayfair screen. Parties from country districts should phone 365 for reservations.
