PROSPECTS FOR SEASON Reviewing tbe past year s activities and the prospects for the coming season, the annual report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Patea Cricket Club shortly states that although war conditions affected some members. there was every prospect of the club fielding a strong eleven in the coming season. Most of the last year's team were still available. and the addition of H. Ellis. a previous club member, would strengthen the team's bowling. L. -Wilson. J. Wilsbn and F. Garnett would again bear the brunt of the bowling, while J. Gibbs, P. Blyde and C. Palmer would hold the batting fort. A noticeable absentee this year would be P. Bourke. a useful all-round player who performed well last season. During the past season several members had gained South Taranaki representative honours, namely J. Wilson, U Wilson, F. Garnett, J. Gibbs and P. Bourke. Out of '14 matches played last season only two had been lost, and the team was responsible for . one pf the major surprises of the year wnen it defeated Okaiawa, the South Taranaki champions, the champions being dismissed for the total of 9 runs. Batting averages were as follows: J. Gibbs, innings 11, not outs 4, highest score 74, runs 253, average 36.14; J. Wilson 13, 3, 87, 304, 30.4; P. Blyde_ 10. 1, 52, 206, 22.99; P. Mudgway 6, 3, 5, 17, 5.66; R. ■HUI 5, 1, 12, 20, 4. Bowling figures were: F. Garnett 96.4 runs, 12 maidens, 32 wickets, 360 runs, average 11.25; L. Wilson 95.5. 21, 21, 303. 14.42; P.
