The sealing has been completed from Dunedin as far as Clinton, where there is a gap due to reconstruction which has been taking place over a period of many months. The gangs working from Clinton and from the Waipahi end have now almost met, and so the reconstruction is in its final stages. The . sealing will be done as soon as consolidation is complete. From Bluff the road has been sealed to four miles on the northern side of Arthurton. As the road north from Dun- I edin has been sealed, properly bridged, , and all bad bends eliminated, to 40 miles north of Christchurch, practically 430 miles of the trunk route is contmuous first-class highway.
