DANCE AT LEPPERTON
A social and dance organised by the Lepperton branch of the W.D.F.U. m aid of the W.D.F.U. bomber fund was a success. About £22 was raised. Messrs. H. E. Blyde and F. T. Crowe were masters of ceremonies. A bring-and-buy stall in charge of Mesdames W. Hall, E. Snowball and R. F. Giddy did good business. A box of ;hocolates donated by Mesdames E. Rowe and H. Giddy w :a won by baby Mawson. A pair of handknitted socks donated by Mrs. A. B. Waldie was won by Mrs. Gordon Hall. A poker-worked chopping board donated by Miss G. Waldie was won by Mrs. E. Rowe. , , . , ,, A Monte Carlo dance for which the prize was given by Mrs. J. Taylor was won by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hall, who gave it back to the funds. Items were given by Mrs. Crabbe, New Plymouth, Mrs. E. Fussell, and Miss Peggy Wright. The accompanists were Miss Jennins and Mr. J. Sutherland. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Sinclair and Mr. and Mrs. J. Payne, Lepperton, held a flag five-hundred party in the hall on Thursday evening in aid of the Spitfire fund. Those at the winning table were Miss L. Gorrie, Mrs. R. J. Allen, Messrs. E. Rowe and A. Old. Consolation prizes went to Mesdames Lowe and J. Payne and Messrs. Haggity and D. Harrison. Mr. A. Ola won a travelling flag and Mrs. Rattray won a travelling parcel. Lepperton successes in the Royal Academy of Music (pianoforte) examinations were: Phillis Styles, Grade III; Barbara S. Allen and Ruth, M. Blyde, prelimmary (Miss M. Jennins); and Lester Cartwright, Grade I with distinction and Grade II (Mr. Rogers, New Plymouth).
