Pope, Manawapou Road. I Mrs. G. Laurence left yesterday to visit her mother, Mrs. Carey, at Christchurch. Mrs. A. V. Lithgow is the guest of her mother, Mrs. J. H. Fake, Eltham. Cribbage Party.
An enjoyable evening's cribbage was held at Mrs. C. Walshe's home on Saturday evening, when she entertained friends at a party in aid of funds for one of the stalls at St. Mary's flower show. Mrs. Walshe wore a smart frock of Mediterranean blue with multi-toned bordered floral stripe. After a play-off. a trophy was won by Mrs. A. E. Morris. iThose present included Mesdames H. H. Holloway, F. H. Bernard, Cleaver, Buckland, A. E. Morris, Comber. L. H. Oppenheim, F. A. Quin, Haylock, J. J. Goodwin, A. Dymond, R. S. Haybittle and Madgwick, and Misses E. Rauch and M. Oppenheim.
Gift Afternoon. Miss Mary Cockerton, who is to be married shortly, was guest of honour on Saturday afternoon at the home of Miss Valma Barker, when the hostess was assisted by Misses Ruth Harley, Zita Robinson and Daphne Brown. The hostess wore a smart frock of floral crepe, and Miss Cockerton's choice was a frock of blue heaven suede crepe, with navy accessories. A navy ensemble was worn by Mrs. Cockerton senr. Competitions were won by Mrs. J. S. Bai'row, C. Stokes (Te Roti) and Misses Robinson, Brown and Harley, and items were given by Misses J. McDonald (songs), C. Barrow (piano solos), D. Brown (recitations) and B. Entwistle (songs). A selection of useful gifts was presented to the guest of honour, with the good wishes of her friends. Among tliose present were Mesdames Cockerton senr., J. S. Barrow, H E. Robinson, Harvey, H. Robinson senr., F. Barkla, Stokes (Te Roti), C. Brant (Marton) and Misses Charm and Dell Barrow, Joan and Ruth Harley, Daphne Brown, Betty Entwistle, Iris McDonald, M. and E. Ogle, Zita Robinson, Valma Barkla and N. Frei.
Methodist Women Meet. Miss Bates presided at the monthly meeting of the Methodist women s auxiliary. Final arrangements for a garden party were held over until next meeting. Letters from sisters m the field were read by Mrs. W. Oliver. Miss Bates was appointed delegate to attend the Dominion conference at Wellington next month, with Mrs. Stockwell as substitute. An address on faith was given by the president. Hostesses were Mesdames G. Tozer and O. Hartmann.
