SUCCESS IN EGYPT
NEW PLYMOUTH BATSMAN I. Des Forges. a former New Plymouth cricketer, has been playing successfully in Egypt. Recent mails received at Ncw Plymouth contain accounts of two cricket matche.s in which Des Forges was a prominent scorer. One match was between a New Zealand Base Headquarters team and a team from t.lie Maadi Sporting Club, which the Headquarters team won by 32 runs. In this match the Sports Club team declared its innings with a total of 132 runs for eight wickets, the score consisting mainly of four double-figure contributions to the total. The top scorer was T. Rainier, who made 30 not out. Howden was the best of the Headquarters bowlers, taking three wickets for 15 runs. The opeping pair for Headquarters gave the side a good start. One of them
was Des Forges, who retired when he had passed the half-century (51) and his partner, Moreton, made 25. These were the best scores, with extras contributing 20. and the total for the innings was 164. Sneddon had the best .bowling average with three wickets for 22 runs. . The . other. match was against the Gezira Sporting Club and this time
Headquarters was beaten by 57 runs, the totals being 186 and 129 respectively. . On this occasion Des Forges made 13. , The best scores for the side were 38 by Sergeant Geddis -and 37 by Sergeant Davies.
