OPUNAKE RED CROSS

The September meeting of the Opunake Red Cross was held recently. The president, Mrs. Watt, was in the chair. Mrs. Wood was asked to see Mrs. Langlands about a new junior circle at Waiteaka and to give the circle help and information. Mrs. Hickey reported that the Convent circle was again functioning and juniors were doing knitting for the Red Cross committee's hospital box. Mrs. Watt reported that two junior circles at Opunake District High School were functioning well and articles had been knitted for the hospital box. A vote of thanks was passed to the Old Pupils' Association of the Opunake District High School for assisting the local Red Cross funds. A letter of congratulation to Hawera upon the formation of the first Women's Transport Division in Taranaki was sent from the Opunake committee. A donation from Mrs. N. Davies and Helene Davies was received. Mrs. Watt reported that Taranaki was making special efforts to train personnel in home nursing and first aid. Opunake would have to do its share in the efforts being made to have a class in home nursing. Eight candidates sat for the St. John first aid examination and all passed. Mesdames Watt, Snell and Dalrymple attended the South Taranaki meeting at Manaia. A report on this meeting was given by Mrs. Watt. Accounts were passed for payment.
