Mrs. D. O. L. Howden is visiting Marton friends. / Miss D. Hopcroft returned yesterday from a week at Auckland and left latpr for Patea, where she will live. Mrs. W. J. Heslop, who has been at Wellington for several months, has returned to Hawera. Mrs. D. F. Gray has left to live at Wanganui. Miss E. Hay-Mackenzie has returned to Wellington after visiting her sister, Miss L. Hay-Mackenzie. Miss Irene O'Sullivan is visiting Wellington, where she is a competitor in the Miramar golf tournament. Miss J. Lewis has returned from a week-end visit to her mother, Mrs. T. Lewis, Tututawa. Mrs. E. Corbett, Mrs. H. D. Fraser and Miss Janice Fraser spent the week-end at Patea as the guests of Mrs. W. R. Corbett. Mt. Egmont Alpine Club "At Home." Among the visitors to Dawson Falls mountain house for the Mt. Egmont Alpine Club's "at home" were Mesdames R. Syme, D. Hetherington, A. Snowden, B. Murphy (Hawera), T. Wright (Okaiawa). R. Sinclair (Stratford), and Misses J. Hills, H. Good, N. Keeley, P. Bates, J. Downey, C. Cameron (Hawera), P. Gardner, L. Aberley, F. Bailey, L. Cuff (Kaponga), M. Connor and F. Connor (Stratford), J. Arnold, J. Shirley, B. Kidd, U. Miles, D. Charters, J. Ayson, C. Broad, A. Watt, H. Snowbutts, P. Gilmour, G. McQueen, J. Corrigal (New Plymouth), N. Kemp (Eltham), and Fay Mackay, Julie Werry, H. and J. BassettSmith, D. Robinson, D. Sullivan and W. Kings (Wanganui). Treat for Gardeners. Members of the Women's Club garden circle spent an enjoyable afternoon during the week-end, when they were the guests of Mrs. C. H. Washer at her home at Scott Road, where spring bloorns were at their best. Borders of primulas and large flowered polyanthus in a variety of shades were much admired, and a weeping prunis in full bloom, with trails of delicate blossom, made a magnificent picture. Bowls of primula decorated the drawing-room, where tea was served. The hostess wore a wool sheer frock of zulu brown, and she was assisted by her sister, Miss McDonald. and her daughter, Mrs. V. J. Stratton. Mrs. E. M. Hamilton, convener of the circle, thanked Mrs. Washer for the opportunity given to fellow members to visit her garden. Those present included Mesdames E. M. Hamilton. V. J. Stratton, J. Ekdahl, E. Evans. A. Evans, J. Livingston, Misses HayMackenzie, McDonald, J. Downey and J. Buchanan. Staff Dance. The newly-opened Hawera branch of Woolworths Ltd. held a successful staff social at the Rewa lounge on Saturday evening in aid of the firm's special ambulance fund. Visitors were present from the branches at New Plymouth and Wanganui. Novelty dances were won by Miss Monica Quayle and partner and Miss Burton and partner. The women's section of the committee consisted of Mrs. L. Tabley, Misses M. Doran, V. Bailey, M. England and M. Apel (secretary).
