WOMEN'S DIVISION

Westown: - Mrs. Rollett presided. It was decided to send 10s to the leper fund. A birthday month would be run for the lepers, it was agreed. Each member agreed to give ls towards the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund. Mrs. Andrews volunteered to make a cake to be raffled. Mrs. Lawn sang two songs. Mr. Davies gave a talk on flowers for show, shrubs and bulbs. A vote of thanks was accorded Lister Dean, who had printed members' name cards. Mesdames Prince, Andrews, Petch and helpers were hostesses. Urenui: At the September meeting Mrs. Newton presided. A garden party is to be held, the proceeds to go to the Spitfire fund. It was decided that the branch join the Lady Galway Guild, also that the leper island should be remembered. A spring bulb show was held by members, and entries were judged by Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Guthrie. The prize for champion bulb was won by Mrs. V. Wells, who won the points .prize over all classes. Mrs. Strachan gained firSt for points over daffodil classes and first for a prize trumpet. Mesdames Herbert, C. Honeyfield and Davidson were hostesses. Awatuna: The,re was a good attendance at. the meeting presided over by Mrs. Bourke. Three new members were welcomed. A letter of thanks was received from Private Irwin Alty for a parcel received. The sum of £4 3s was sent to the South Taranaki executive for a special patriotic effort. The proceeds from an afternoon held during the month, £12, is being sent to headquarters for the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund. The wandering shilling for soldiers' parcels was won hy Mrs. Boyd. Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Bradley are attending to parcels this month. Members worked again in conjunction with the Red Cross for the Lady Galway appeal and Red Cross, bringing

over 200 articles. Competitions resulted: Red Cross hot water bag cover, Mrs. Lind 1, Miss A. Collins 2, Mrs. Corbett 3; best bloom, Mrs. Bourke 1 and 3, Miss l Collins 2. The judge was Mrs. Lind. 1 Hostesses were Mesdames Sayed and 1 Lawrence. Mrs. Templeton presented the , points prize for six months for the best i bloom which was won by Mrs. R. Boyd. Ncw Plymouth: A successful mart was ( held on premises lent by Mr. Bellringer , in aid of the W.D.F.U. fighting plane and £14 0s 8d was realised. Results of competitions were: Cake, Mrs. Gillbanks; dinner, Mrs. McPhillips; sweets, Trixie I Press, Oakura: doll, Mrs. Anderson, j Brooklands Road. > I Whakamara: The monthly meeting was held in the Whakamara hall, the president, Mrs. S. P. Buckrell, presiding. The proceeds of a shop day held recently amounted to £18, which was donated to the patriotic fund. The sum of £7 10s was voted to the Spitfire fund. Mrs. H. R. Scott gave a demonstration of posy making. A competition for best bottle of pickles was won by Mrs. J. Barkla, the second prize going to Mrs. H. Shrimpton. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Mickelson, Davies and Woller. Several parcels were made up by members for soldiers on active service. Many gifts were left with Mrs. Buckrell for distribution among the lepers at Makogai Island.
