WASHER BEQUEST

SCHOOL BOAED MEETING Sympathy with the relatives of the late Flight-Lieutenant A. G. Washerwas expressed by the New Plymouth High Schools Board last night and reference was made to his bequest of £250 to the school to assist boys wishing take up aviation. ' Gas flttings in the science laboratones at the boys' school were so worn- that it would be impossible to carry on next year unless they were replaced, although he had hoped that the fittings could be made to last until the completion of the new block, reported the headmaster, Mr. W. H. Moyes. ^ The escape of gas was so bad that it was a veal danger from the aspects of both health and fire. Although senior commcrcial girls were leaving schools to take positions in offices, the roll stood at 460, reported Miss D. N. Allan. The school was asked to assist with the Plunket Day appeal and gave 7i dozen eggs and 25s 6d m Messrs. Gatland and Sly field attended a conference of teachers of electrical engineering at Wellington, reported Mr. A. L. Moore, principal of the technical school. Both were enthusiastic about the good work of the conference. Sister Weir was appointed relieving nurse at the boys' school. Mrs. Firlh was thanked' for the gift of a picture for the sitting room at the boys' school.
