FATAL ACCIDENT

TAUMARUNUI RESIDENT HIGHWAY COLLISION OTHER PEOPLE ESCAPE
Auckland. Last iNigni. Mrs. Ida Caroline Gardner, aged 61 years, Taumarunui, was killed in a collision which occurred at the intersection of the Hinuera, Tauranga and Matamata roads yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Gardner was travelling with her husband, David Gardner, mill manager,' Taumarunui, in a car driven by L. R. Pulham, Taumarunui. The other car involved in the collision was driven by F. H. Holmes, Matamata. , . Mrs. Gardner was severely crushed in the chest and died from injuries in the Matamata hospital six hours later. The other occupants of the car driven by Mr. Pulham suffered minor injuries. Mr. Holmes and a companion were unhurt. Both cars were seriously damaged.
