With 173.9 hours to its credit New Plymouth was sixth of 36 New Zealand meteorological stations that recorded bright sunshine in August. Lake Tekapo (185.1 hours), Alexandra (181.2 hours) and Auckland (181.1 hours) occupied the first three places.
