EGMONT WEEK-END

SKI-ING ON EAST SIDE Excellent ski-ing and weather condittions prevailed at East Egmont at the week-end, when 40 Stratford Mountain Club members and visitors enjoyed a good day's sport on the Policeman slopes. There was no snow on Hut Ridge but beginners were able to get good runs in Outlet Gully. A start was made on the survey of the proposed new Manganui Gorge track yesterday, when members of the Stratford Mountain Club and the Eltham Alpine Club spent the day in preliminary investigation. Members went both in and out of the gorge by a new route, but much work would be required to show its practicability from a constructional point of view. The fine weather at North Egmont yesterday attracted 20 cars, including three truckloads of young people. Climbing as far as Tahurangi hut was indulged in and snow games were played.
