WAVERLEY CAMP
ADVANCE PARTY TO-DAY
An advance party of 34 officers, n.c.o.'s and men will leave to-day from Taranaki to set up the. territorial camp at Waverley, which will be used till Waiouru is ready. The personnel of the advance party is: Majors M. Urquhart and D. Malcolm, Staff Sergeant-Major (W.O.) J. Corkill, Staff Sergeant H. J. Calgher, Sergeant B. M. Revell, Corporals M. Hood, J. P. M. Bowes, K. J. McGlashan, H. R. Bracegirdle, Privates J. M. Barrow, L. L. Rielly, M. V. Moorcock, E. V. Cooper, A. E. Reader, S. G. Cottam, K. Lobb, T. Knight, C. Salt D. W. Shaw, J. F. Millan, R. A. Morey, D. R. Lynch, D. H. Clegg, F. R. Lawson, L. E. Fabish, I. Smart, I. C. Till, E. C. Carter, W. C. McKinlay, H. J. Stannard, A. P. Bertie, M. F. Fabish, J. K. Wooler and P. W. Bates. This party will travel by the New Ply-mouth-Wellington express. 1 Laying Out the Camp. The preparations will entail the laying out of the camp, the erection of tents, the arrangement of cooking, mess and washing facilities and attention to all the general details that are required to make a camp run smoothly. The main body of troops will enter camp on October 1, leaving Taranaki on a special train. In camp, additlonal clothing will be issued to n.c.o.s and other ranks. It will comprise shirts, underclothlng, socks, boots, jersey, towels and trousers. An issue will be made to each msn of five blankets, a straw palliasse and a ground sheet. Sports and amusements are not to be neglected in camp, and men are advised to take sandshoes, footballs, coats, jerseys etc. and any available musical instruments. The Army Department advises that social security levy books must be taken to camp. Captain A. E. Gilliver is to be. train orderly officer. Train arrangements hav-'! been completed and the following are the times of departure of the special or connecting trains:— Waitara 6.30 a.m., Lepperton 7.10 a.m.. Inglewood 7.30 a.m., Tariki 7.45 a.m., Stratford 8.5 a.m., Eltham 8.18 a.m., 'Hawera 8.43 a.m., and Patea 9.33 a.m. Arms and Uniform.
N.C.O.'s and other ranks will parade in service dress, with belt and side arms, at their respective stations at the following times: — New Plymouth 6 a.m., Waitara 6 a.m., Lepperton 6.30 a.m., Inglewood 6.45 a.m., Tariki 7 a.m., Stratford 7.5 a.m., Eltham, 7.30 a.m., Hawera 7.45 a.m., Patea 9 a.m. For the Information of troops, various details concerning camp are given. On the journey to Waverley, web will be packed in kit bag and overcoats will be carried. Officers' baggage will be placed in the van but n.c.o.s ar.d men will take their kit bags and rifles into the carriages. Names will not be written on kit bags but will be labelled with number, rank and name. All n.c.o.'s and other ranks will be required to bring complete uniform and equipment, boot and button cleaning gear and, for ranks below lance-sergcant, knife, fork, spoon, two p!ates, mug and ica towel. Letters to men in camp should be addressed with the name and initials, number, unit and company of the man concerned. *
