CLAY BIRD SHOOTING
NEW PLYMOUTH EVENT Shooters from all parts of Taranaki took part in a shoot at the New Plymouth Gun Club grounds, Frankley Road, during the week-end. Favoured with fine weather the flight of the clay targets did not vary, and good shooting was the result. Results were:— Five-bird eye opener (19 competitors): R. Allan (16yds.), W. O'Brien Jnr. (14yds), C. Henry (14yds), N. Odgen (12yds.) and C. Humphries (12yds.) all shot the possible and divided. Ten-bird trophy match (19 competitors): F. D. Ballantyne won outright, being the only competitor to shoot the possible. C. Henry (14yds.) and W. Coxhead (13yds.) being second with- nine breaks each. Ten-bird handicap match (20 competitors): W. O'Brien Snr.. (16yds.) first with 10 breaks, C. Henry, A. Walker (12yds.), A. Hammond (16yds.) and I. Brogden tied for second place with nine birds each. Double rise trophy match (five pair), 21 competitors: W. O'Brien Jnr., C. Henry and A. Hammond tied with eight breaks each. In the shoot off W. O'Brien won on the fourth bird. Gymcrack six birds (21 competitors): W. O'Brien Snr. 15 to 20yds., R. Allan 15 to 20yds. and C. Henry 13 to 18yds., tied, being the only competitors to break I the possible. Novice match, five birds (12 competitors): L. Donnely and C. Humphries shot the possible and divided the sweep. First miss-out (15 competitors); W. O'Brien Snr. and F. Gatenby divided at the 15th. bird. C. Henry broke 14, A. Walker and J. Hammond 13, and R Allan 12.
