SPRING FLOWER SHOW

SUCCESS AT .STRATFORD A. G. CRAIG IN DECORATIVE "In these days when life is so serious and somewhat strained it brings good jieer into the hearts and minds of men and women . to cultivate and show flowers," said the president, Mr. D. G. Sherson, in opening the Stratford Horticultural Society's 1940 spring flower show in the Parish Hall on Saturday aftemoon. The show attracted an excellent entry of blooms of good standing. The quality of the blooms was commended by the judges, who pointed out that any difficulties occasioned by recent weather conditions had been successfully overcome. Mr. Sherson congratulated the members of the junior daffodil growers' circle on the fine display staged, and looked forward to an even larger display next season. Thanks were extended to competitors and sfewards in Mr. Sherson s concluding remarks. The show was conducted under the drrection of Mr. Sherson, assisted by officers and committee members, and the secretarial duties were carried out by Mr. A. E. Davis, assisted by Mrs. Davis. Points prizes were won as follows: — Oak tray for women's organisation securing most points: Toko '.V.D.F.U., 84 points; runners-up, Ngaere, 73^ points. Cut flowers: Taranaki championship, Mr. A. G.
