OLD HAWERA PUPILS
KAPONGA BRANCH FORMED
A decision to form a Kaponga branch of the Hawera Technical High School Old Pupils Association was reached by a meeting of former pupils held in the Oddfellows Hall, Kaponga. At the invitation of those resident at Kaponga a party of five ex-pupils from Hawera attended. They were Mrs. George Pitcairn, Misses Daphne Brown and Marian Dundas and Messrs. Clive Dowdle and J. Sheerin. The visitors gave an explanation of the aetivitics of the Hawera association and promised the support of the parent body. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. II. Suthcrland; vice-presi-dcnt. Miss June Thurston; sccretary, Mr, P. Noreate: committee, Misses D. Guy and P. Harding and Messrs. M. Kissick and M. Thurston. lt was decided to hold another meeting in October and in the meantime the committee will meet to plan activities. Institute Flower Show. At ihe evening session of the very suc-cos.-.ful spring show organiserl by the Kaponga womcn's jnstitute a musical and variety progranime was given. Songs were sung by the Mi.ises Jiuie Thurston and Florence Ilarding, and dnets by the Misses M. and D. Guy. Solo dances were pcrformed by the Misses Wilina Marr and Marian Tyack and elociitionary items were given by Master W. Snowdon. Accompaniments were played by Mrs. I. E. Evans and Misses P. Harding and L. Andrews. A large crowd attended and good business was done by a cake and produce stall conducted by Mrs. J. Tattersall. Supper arrangements were oraanised by Mesdames E. J. Webby and J. Ellis. A competition for a dinner was won by Mr. G. F. Court.
