MANAIA PATRIOTIC WORK

The Manaia and district patriotic committee met to consider the supply of Christmas parcels to troops overseas ^and decided that sJdressed parcels should be sent to all men from the district servmg outside the country. The question of the disrict's contribution towards the sending of unaddressed parcels was deferred unil after the return of the Manaia delegates from the meeting of district representatives at Stratford. Mr. Harrison undertook to procure the articles which would conorise the parcels. The secretary reported that more. than £1700 had been collected from Manaia, Auroa, Kapuni Otakeho and Oeo and had been paid mto the committee from the various ap^eals. This compared favourably with results in other districts. Authority was givcr. the secretary to pay a.promised donation of £300 which was in hand to the Spitfire fund. Although there were still many people not contributing towards the weekly donation scheme it was hoped that. at least some of these would come forward and join those donors whose efforts had so generously increased the various patriotic funds. It was again repeated that the scheme in operation did not preclude individuals or sports bodies holding functions for patriotic purposes . provided the consent of the committee was obtained and the resulting funds accounted for to the committee.
