The Rev. J. Nixon, New Plymouth, is at present indisposed., Mr. G. C. Gray, of the Automobile Association (Sonth Taranaki) has been appointed to the patrol staff of the Automobile Association (Wanganui). He has been stationed at Hawera for two years. Major G. Malcolm, second in command, Lieutenant D. C. Powrie, adjutant, and Sergeant-Major J. H. Boon, of the 1st Battalion, Taranaki Regiment, visited Waverley on Thursday in connection with the territorial camp next month. Mr. D. Weichert, New Zealand pole vault champion and record holder, will leave on his return to the United States of America from Auckland on Monday. During his stay at New Plymouth Mr. Weichert by his readiness to give advice to young athletes, made himself a popular figure. Captain A. H. Andrews, New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps, an ex-All Black footballer and an old boy of New Plymouth High School. has been promoted to the rank of Major, the promotion to date as from August 1 it is stated in advice received at New Plymouth this week. Major Andrews is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Andrews, Okato. Mr. P. J. Lamason. assistant inspector, was farewell ed on Friday afternoon by officers of the Department of Agriculture at New Plymouth on his leaving for the Levin Air Force training camp. Officers spoke of the esteem in which he was held and Miss C. K. Poynton made a presentation on behalf of the staff. Mr. Lamason suitably replied. Mr. D. Parkin, who has been on the Pukekura Park grounds staff for several years, during which he has had a good deal to do with the care of the sportsground playing area, has severed his connection with the park. He was met by the staff and farewelled, and on behalf of his fellow employees Mr. T. Horton, superintendent, nresented him with a fountain pen and extended their best wishes to him for the future. Two changes in the personnel of the Ngamotu beach committee were recorded at a meeting this week. Mr. C. H. Wynyard was welcomed as a new member and the resignation of Mr. A. R. Standish was received. The committee expressed its regret that circumstances compelled Mr. Standish to sever his connection with the committee, of which he had been a valued member for a long period.
