ABUSE OF ROAD SIGNS
V. AND ALISM AT MATIERE Special to Daily News. Taumarunui, Sept. 17. Residents of the Matiere district are concern-d regarding damage done recently to a.a. signposts at the junction of various roads, and when the matter was reported to the chairman of the Ohura County Council last week he immediately placed the matter in the hands of the police. When referring to the apparent vvilful dcstruction of these valuable signs, nlaced at road junctions in the district by the Automobile Association for the guidance of motorists, Mr. 0. c. Pleasants, chairman of the Ohura County Council. informed a Daily News representative that one morning the signposts were found broken. All members of the Automobile Association contributed towards the cost of the erection of the sisrns and as they were placed at Ihe junction of various roads for the convenience of motorists it was the duly of f e council to scc that they were protected. Mr. l. a. Passau. member for the Nihoniho riding, said that it would appear that some irresponsible person or persons had deliberately drivcn off the road at the various junctions and broken the signs. At a meeting of the Ohura County Council last week it was resolved to inform the Automobile Association of the dc:truction of signposts on the Mokau-Ohura. Whenuakura. Nihoniho and Jebb's roads. and that the action of the chairman in reoorting the matter to the police be confirmed.
