MRS. BATEMAN DEAD
salvation army work The death occurred on August 23 of Mrs. Jessie Bateman, wife of Mr. William Bateman, Salisbury, Dannevirke, where she had lived for the last 17 years. The late Mrs. Bateman, who was born at Green Island, near Dunedin, had been unable to walk for nearly 70 years, but was otherwise in good health. Having married 43 years ago, she lived at Levin, Dunedin," Rangataua and Stratford before finally settling at Dannevirke. Her passing was unexpected. She had t>een a member of the Salvation Army for 45 years, taking an active part both in the open-air and inside services as long as she was able to do so. She was also a member of the Hom* League, in which she. held office for many years. Besides her husband, she ls survived by one son, Mr. C. Bateman (New Plymouth), and two daughters, Mrs. G, Harris (Dannevirke), and Mrs. W. H, Wakelin (Palmerston North); also two sisters, Mrs. A. Morris (Gisborne) and Mrs. H. Morris (Dunedin). The funeral took place at Mangatera Cemetery after a meeting in the Citadel. The Dannevirke Municipal Band assisted the local Salvation Army Band with thc i sinaine at the sraveside.
