Mr. T. C. Street, Rahotu, who has been a patient in the New Plymouth hospital for the past two months, returned home yesterday. Mr. L. G. Lowry, M.P., and Mrs. Lowry, who visited their daughter, Mrs. I. V. Buchanan, Manaia Road, retumed to Otaki yesterday. Advice has been received at Auckland of the death in England of Mr. W. H. Hamer. who was engineer to the Auckland Harbour Board for 21 years until his x-etirement in 1924. Captain F. W. Moor, late of the Department of Health, has been appointed staff officer and quartermaster to the Director -General of Medical Services at Army Headquarters. Mr. P. E. Stainton, New Plymouth, for North Taranaki, and Mr. R. Mortlock, Hawera, for South Taranaki, wefe elected to the council of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors' Association at the annual meeting at Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. L. Larsen. Westport, who are touring the North Island and have been visiting the latter's sister, Mrs. A. H, Henderson, New Plymouth, have left for Auckland to visit their son who is head at the ' Meteorlogical Department, Machanics Bay. Major E. H. Whiting has been attached to army headquarters at Wellington for dutv as publicity officer, and ceased to be seconded to Central Military District Headquarters for similar duty, according to a Gazette notice last night. Squadron-Leader Francis Ross Dix has been granted a permanent commission in the Royal New Zealand Air Force under a notice appearing in tonight's Gazette. Messrs. R. Macdonald, Waikuku, and D. R. Ogilvy, Foxton, have been appointed members of the Flax Plan Industrial Committee in place of Messrs. A. G. Long and B. B. Wood, who have resigned, according to last night's Gazette. The death occurred in Greytown hospital on Monday of an ex-mayor of the town. Mr. Henry Thomas Rees, at the age of 74. Mr. Rees was born at Sydney and had been a resident of New Zealand since 1868. He is survived by his widow (formerly Miss Bessie Greathead, Masterton), and three sons, Messrs. J. H Rees, Greytown, Walter Rees, Dannevirke, and Clarence Rees, Hawera. There are four grandchildren. Mr, C. White has resigned the secretaryship of the Fitzroy Seaside Parl committee prior to entering camp with the fourth reinforcements. At a recen meeting of the committee the chairman. Mr. H. S. Wagstaff, paid a tribute to the work done by Mr. White, who hac been secfetary for 15 years. He hac always given his time and his service; willingly for the advancement and development of the park.
