MAYFAIR TO-MORROW.
CINESOUND'S "DAD RUDD M.P." Clarence E. Mulford's "Hidden Gold," which continues the Hopalong Cassidy series, and "Opened by Mistake. _ a laughable murder mystery, starring Charlie Ruggles, Janice Logan and Robert Paige, comprise the double feature programme at the Mayfair day. Continuing the adventures of Dad and Dave," two of the most popul aroha racters in Australia, Dad Rudd, M P " opens to-morro\v at the Mayfair Theatre at 2 and 8 p.m. Comedy predominates in the production, but there is also a flavour introduced with the stressing of the necessity of water conservation for the man on the land, but it is the finale in the House of Parliament that the film strikes a stirring patriotic note that will thrill the heart of Britisher. In this sequence ' Dad Rudd, MP" (Bert Bailey), as a real Australian, one of the pioneer stock, pays a sincere tribute to the valuable contribution this young nation is making to the Empire s war effort. Cinesound's policy of continuing the "Dad and Dave films has had its critics, hut they have been outnumbered by the legion of supporters of this popular type of entertainment. Un Our Sclcction" was the first of the series, and incidentally Australia s first talkie production, and the phenomenal records of this evergreen picture, which has been repeated again and again. still stand in the many theatres throughout the Commonwealth. Bert Bailey and Fred Macdonald, the original "Dad and Dave,^ were the stars of "On Our Selection. They also portrayed the same roles in Cinesound's "Dad and Dave Come to Town." the picture which holds the honour of being the only Australian fihn to be screened in the West End of London. Box plans for "Dad Rudd, M.P.." are now open at Colliev's.
