NEWS FROM MIDHIRST
SOLDIERS' WELFARE WORK A meeting of the Midhirst Soldiers' Welfare Committee was held recently. Mr. G. P. Harkness presided. A report on the finances was presented by the secretary, Mr. Haddon Smith. Donations were received from the Boy Scouts, golf club, primary school and Young Farmers' Club, and thanks were expressed to them for their co-operation. The second annual ball of the Midhirst Young Farmers' Club was suecessful despite inclement weather. Visitors from Stratford and Pukengahu were present. Novelty dances were won by Miss Karalus and Mr. S. Carter, Miss J. Nielsen and Mr. C. Schumacher, Mr. and Mrs. W. Adlam. Miss I. Theobold and Mr. Murphy. F.xtras were played by Mr. S. Carter. Masters of ceremonies were Messrs. I. Crosby and H. Judson. The Tamariki Toa Boy Scout committee met recently. An endeavour would be made to form a cub pack, it was decided. Mr. Waltcr Vickers presided over a good attcndance at a meeting of the Midhirst primary school old pupils' assoeiation. An enrly commenccmcnt of the activities of the association was decided upon. A drivc for mcmbership is to be unrlertaken. The following interim committee was elected with power to add: Messrs. W. Vickers, S. Carter. E. Graham. Haddon Smith arid Mesdames R. G. Kivell, C. Trass and W. Vickers. Mr. Smith was aopointed honorary secretary pro tem. The fubilee of (he school is being kept in view by the association.
