HEALTHY OLD FOLK

METHUSELAHS' VILLAGE Great Chart, near Ashford, in Kent, is a great little village. The population is only about 700, but it includes a number of octogenarians. Each of the last eleven residents to be buried was over eighty. The church near which they lie is Early English, and many of the cottages and farms date back hundreds of years. In the church is a brass tablet commemorating Captain Nicholas Toke, a 17th century squire who, even in those days, was giving Great Chart a reputation for longevity. Married and wldowed five times. he set out to walk to London, 55 miles, at the age of ninety-three. He was looking out for the sixth Mrs. Toke. But his matrimonial adventures came to naught, for he died on the way.
