MANGANUI TRACK
CONDITION PRAISED The excellent condition of the existing Manganui Gorge track on east Egmont proved of no little value in bringing out an injured man on Sunday, considered the Mayor of Stratford, Mr. P. Thomson, at a meeting of the east committee of the Mount Egmont National Park. Board at Stratford. Had the track been in rough order the difficulties of bringing a stretcher through would have been very great, he said. Owing to heavy rain considerable work had to be done on the road, reported the caretaker, Mr. J. Hennessey. A washout started to develop below the house, but he was able to do preventative work before the damage became serious. Some work was done on the Manganui Gorge track. He was on the mountain on Sunday, said the chairman. Mr. T. R. Anderson, and he found the track around the gorge to be in better condition than it had been for a long time. The revenue for August totalled £30 6s 3d compared with £68 15s 6d in August. 1939. The July revenue was £18 8s 6d, so that August showed a big improvement.
