GUARDS RESUME DUTY
PETROL INSTALLATIONS NEW PLYMOUTH ACTIVITY WARNING TO THE PUBLIC Military guards on oil storage installations at Moturoa, New Plymouth, were restored yesterday. Guards were posted almost immediately after the outbreak of hostilities, but were withdrawn after several months. Two guards have been posted, one on the Shell and Texas companies' installation and the other at the Atlantic and Vacuunl depot. Each is in charge of a non-commissioned officer and will be maintained 24 hours a day. The public has been warned that the sentries' rifles are loaded with ball ammunition and that they will fire on any person who fails to answer when challenged. The men of the guard are home service recruits, mostly returned soldiers between the ages of 45 and 56. They were fitted out at Coronation Hall on Monday and bore a smart appearance when being put through their initial training.
