Mr. F. Willis, who is well -known throughout Taranaki, retumed to Wellington from New Plymouth yesterday. Sympathy with Mr. G. Fulford in his illness was expressed at the annual meeting of the Pukekura Park Tennis Club. The death of Mr. Percy Pease, deputy Premier of Queensland and Minister of Lands since 1931, is ; reported in a Press Association cable from Brisbane. Messrs. Collett and Co. Ltd., agents for Port Line Ltd., yesterday received advice that Mr. Warwick Gregory, late manager for New Zealand, has been elected a director of the line. The resignation of Mr. H. B. Robb, who has removed from the school district, was accepted with regret by the Westown school committee last night. It was decided to recommend Mr. L. Harris to the Taranaki Education Board for appointment to the vacancy. Mr. Walter Joseph Reading, who died at New Plymouth on Monday at the age of 85 years, was born at Wellington and was the son of a pioneer family who farmed the land now occupied by the suburb of Karori. Since coming to New Plymouth he took a keen interest in bowling as a member of the New Plymouth Bowling Club. The Hon.,H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Education, left Wellington on Monday for the South Island. He will open schools at Dunedin, Gore, Timaru and Christchui'ch, and will also visit Oamaru and Invercargill on educational business. Mr. Mason expects to return to Wellington on September 25. Mr. P. W. Rule, Timaru, was presented with the gold medal of the New Zealand Institute of Architects by the president of the Canterburv branch. Mr. G. A. J. Hart, at a luncheon. Mr. Rule was awarded the medal for his work on the new surgical block at Timaru hospital. The Rev. Howard E. Harkness, who has been supplying minister at the Dominion Road Methodist Church, Auckland, has gone to Trentham mobilisation camp for service with the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Harkness i.s the second minister the congregation has relcased for active service, the regular minister, the Rev. E'. Gardner Brown, heing witii I the third echelon.
