OIL AT MOTUROA
DEVELOPMENT WISHED CHAMBER DEPUTATION VISIT OF HON. P. C. WEBB Whether development of the Moturoa oil field is practicable as a war measure will be discussed with the Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce at New Plymouth to-night. A deputation from the chamber will wait on the Minister as the result of a discussion at a recent meeting when it was pointed out that three welis were producing on the field and that petrol and other oils were beging regularly refined. Other Poirits for Discussion. Other subjects for discussion with the Minister are the proposed new New Plymouth chief post office and automatic telephone exchange, improvement of mail facilities between Taranaki and the Ohura-IVfatiere districts and dissatisfaction with New Plymouth suburban pillar box clearances. Mr. Gordon Fraser, president of the chamber, Mr. A. B. Scanlan, chairman of
the trade and expansion committee, and Mr. W. Fossey, New Zealand Oil Refinereries Ltd., will comprise the deputation. Midhirst Inspection. On his way to New Plymouth the Minister will inspect the New Zealand Petroleum Co. Ltd.'s well at Midhirst. Mr. Webb will spend the night at New Plymouth, where he will stay at the Criterion Hotel. After dinner he will meet members of New Plymouth branches of Labour organisations. To-morrow Mr. Webb will leave to visit the coal mines at Tatu and Mangapehi.
