370 TREES FELLED
POWER LINES CLEARED As part of a programme to rid its lines of the interference and danger of overhanging and falling trees, the Taranaki Electric Power Board, of recent months, implemented a policy of removing offending trees. Since then scores of trees have fallen prey to the clearing gang's axe and saw. At the monthly meeting at Eltham yesterday it was reported that during last month 370 trees were felled at the sides of six Central Taranaki roads. Board members expressed gratification at the effective efforts of the clearing gang, and it was 'decided that details of the cost of the clearance should be prepared. Consumers totalled 3047 at August 31, reported the engineer-manager, Mr. B. H. Goldsmith. Installations connected during the month, with the figures for the same month of last year given in parentheses. are: Milking motors, 9 (11); industrial motors, — (1); cowshed waterheaters, 12 (15); household water-heaters, 2 (5); ranges, 2 (7); pumps, 5 (9); lighting and heating (new), 7 (11); lighting and heating (extensions), 49 (52). During the month 1,241,700 units were generated, and 717.858 purchased, making a to tal~ Of" 1.959,558. The largest daily output from the power station was 57,100 units on August 31. A new transformer was erected on East Road, near Gordon Road ,t^ impvove service to residents in the* locality . A deviation of the high pressure line was made at Waipuku, following the felling of trees. An improvement was made to the high pressure fusing of Norfolk Roads, East and West, by the addition of fuses and fuse platforms. A damaged concrete pole on Dudley Road was changed. A temporary deviation of the East Road line at Gordon was made to j permit railway work to be carried out. A short low pressure extension was made on Waingongoro Road to give service to a new house. A total of 370 trees was put down during the month on Tariki, Ross, Rugby, I Mountain, Johns and Norfolk Roads. New service lines and extensions of existing service lines were carried out for 22 consumers, involving the erection of 34 poles. Service line alterations were carried out for 12 consumers and repairs for four consumers, involving 16 and three poles respectively.
