GENERAL
Stratford Reservists. An increased number of members of the Stratford Class 2 Reserve paraded at the Stratford drill hall last week, when they were drilled by the officers and n.c.o.'s of the territorial forces. The instruction comprised infantry drill and Lewis gun exercises. The present members of the reserve at Stratford hope that sufficient members will be enrolled so that two platoons of trained men will be available to support the territorial unit. At the present time instruction is available for two platoons. Thanks to School. At a meeting of the Stratford Domain Board last night it was decided to send a letter to the principal of the Stratford Technical High School, Mr. A. H. R. Amess, extending thanks to Mr. H. C. Johnson and the boys who recently planted ahout one ton of potatoes at the ploughed up area at King Edward Park camp site. Members eulogised the efforts of the pupils and staff of the high school. Sneezing Avoidcd. "We won't start to sneeze now," remarked the chairman, Mr. N. H. Moss, at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Electric Power Board at Eltham yesterday, as a high-placed, steel-framed window banged shut. His remark followed a temporary diversion in the board's business while steps were 1aken to deal with the window. As befits the headouarters of a power board— the veritable ministry of heating comfort— the board room was pleasantly warmed with glow-
ing heaters. but an open window with a broken cord near the ceiling defied the heaters and all the power board. Eventually the services of the outside staff were enlisted and with a cunningly poised step ladder and deftly handled pole the window was slammed home, and the business of the board continued in electrically generated comfort
