GENE AUTRY AT THE STATE.

"SIIOOTiNG HIGH" TO-DAY. Packed with roaring adventure, rollicking fun, trigger-fast action and five tuneful new songs, "Shooting High," a colourful action-romance of the West which heads the outstanding doublefeature programme which begins to-day at the State Theatre, brings the popular Gene Autry and Jane Withers togethe^ for the first time. Gene plays the part of Will Carson, whose one ambition in life is to clear the name of his grand•father, Wild Bill Carson, who was unjustly accused of being a member of a robber band. As daughter of the town banker, Jane aids Gene not only in the fight to vindicate his grandfather, but also in his efforts to capture the heart of Jane's older sister, played by Marjorie Weaver. In this picture Gene has two solo humbers, "Only One Love in a Lifetime" and "Little Okl Band of Gold." He sings both with his usual fin£ feeling and skill. Together Jane and Gene sing "Sbanty of Dreams" and "Wanderers,"' while Jane Withers puts across a rollicking number called "On the Rancho with My Pancho" with rare zest. TYie I associate feature is the chilling murdermystery drama "The Spider." Derrick de Marney and Jean Gillie head the cast of this amazing story of a clever criminal who becomes caught in the net of his own diabolical plans.
