War Cause of Star Role

■ ■. When 18-year-old Valerie Scanlan completed her first screen role in "Dad and Dave Come To Town" for Cinesound, she made plans to further her career by studying at London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Last August, she set off for England, but by the time the boat had arrived at Port Said, a cable from her parents advised her to return. Heartbroken, she arrived back at Sydney, but, strangely enough, a movie role was already awaiting her. Cinesound, following the tremendous success of "Dad and Dave Come to Town," had already made preparations to continue ■the adventures of the Rudd family, and were busy contracting the cast of the previous picture for "Dad Rudd, M.P." It was, therefore, with relief that they w'elcomed the attractive, hazel-eyed girl back to the Rudd fold to play her role of "Sally."
