PATRIOTIC FUNDS RAISED Of a total of £276 13s lld raised in Taranaki by football activities for patriotic purposes, the Rugby gala day held by the banks, law and stock firms at Hawera produced £160 17s lld. The total was raised as follows: Sale of tickets £40 8s, gala day, gate and grandstand £51 13s, official programmes (Waikikamukau Gazette) £3 11s 3d, raffle and competition £27 11s 4d, proceeds of sale of cow and heifer donated by Messrs. A. E. Death and H. Poulsen respectively £16, sundry donations 13s, smoke concert . profit £21 ls 4d, total £160 17s 'lld.' This money was raised to assist the rehabilitation of returned men from Hawera and district after the war. Because of help given by patriotic workers the expenses were almost nil, the necessary advertising being put to the accounts of law and stock firms, and refreshments were supplied free of charge. Winners of competitions were F. Dudlley, C. Duckworth, J. O. Lang, C. Mc-Rae-Fittall, E. R. Honeyfield, J. Preo, and Cameron. The rest of the total consists of £100 16s raised by the Taranaki Rugby Union for the Taranaki Spitfire fund and a further £15 raised by the Eltham Football Club on Saturday for the same purpose.
