LAND GIRLS' MASS ATTACK
Rec. D.oU p.m. xvugoy, oeyu *«*. The watchfulness of the British people to prevent enemy pilots who have been shot down and descend over the countrty by parachute from escaping is well | shown in a story told not without humour by a Royal Air Force pilot who had to bale out* owing to his oxygen apparatus catching fire. "1 came down rather too qulckly and landed heavily in a potato field," he said. "Sdmewhat winded, I had hurt my legs and, back, but not seriousjy. Before I could get up half a dozen land glrls came running up with sticks and a spade, a hoe aiid pitchfork. I called out, 1 'Hello girls, help me oul of my brolly, will you.' Realising that I was British; they dropped their weapons and asked if they could get a car or an ambulanee. Suddenly they dived for their sticks again, yelling 'Hold off!' I looked round to see them running at a Home Guard j who was stalking me with rifle to shoulI der."
