SPONTANEOUS RESPONSE BIG SUM ALREADY RAISED RIGHT OF EACH PROVINCE So spontaneous has been New Zealand's response to the appeal- for funds for the purchase of fighter aircraft for the Royal Air Force that the required sum of £100,000 has already been substantially exceeded. | The present known total is over £115.000. This does not mean that no more money will be raised as each province has been given the right to provide a plane costing £6500. Some funds have only recently been opened The main fun/s are:—

There are substantial sums still to he paid in. A football day at Eltham raised £15 and a bowling tournament and card party at New Plymouth £18. A unanimous decision to contribute £250 for the purchase of fighter aeroplanes for Britain was made by the Tuapeka County Council, says a Dunedin report. The chairman, Mr. R. S. Thompson, said the war was going to be a long and bitter one and every penny available would be required, as with the intensification of aerial warfare the wastage of aeroplanes would be terrific.
