LOWER MANGOREI NEWS

The Lower Mangorei school committee held their monthly meeting 'recently. Miss V. Curtis, the head teacher, stated that the term had commenced with a good attendance and would be able to maintain the 4B grade, with the . roll, at 136. The doctor and nurse had visited the school recently. The children had been to see the coronation picture display. Mr. Knight's resignation was received and Mr. W. Peterson was appointed chairman. The meeting decided to hold a working bee to plant an oranamental hedge as part of the ground improvement plan. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre party and dance organised by the Lower Mangorei patriotic committee. Prize- winners at euchre were Mrs. Winstanley and Mr. Dent. Luck'y number prizes went to Mrs. Johnson and Mr. MacDonald,. and a special prize to Mr. F. Dent. Mrs. A. Dent played music for dancing. Winners of a Monte Carlo were Miss O. Peters and Mr. A. Johnston. Mr. A. Johnston was l master of ceremonies. Mr. O. Balsom presided over a- good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Mangorei branch of the Young Farmers' Club. A general discussioh on farm topics was held.
