ALBION LUCKY
DRAW WITH AIR FORCE The final of the Duff Rosebowl Soccer competition at the New Plymouth airport on Saturday resulted in Air Force and Albion drawing 2—2. The teams will again meet to decide the holder of the trophy. Air Force were definitely the better team and held the advantage throughout, Albion being unable to play together as a team at any stage. The poor set of forwards tried to bluff their way through. The Air Force forwards and backs combined well, the first goal coming from a well executed movement which enabled Potter to drive in a hard shot which gave Woodd no chance of saving. Shortly afterwards Air Force was awarded a penalty for Halliwell handling, Marshall making no mistake with his kick. In the second spell Albion was still penned in its own half for some time until Earl, with a good clearing shot, sent the Albion forward line away, a goal resulting from a melee in front of the goal when the ball struck Sprange and was deflected in. Air Force still held the advantage but was handicapped by two players being injured, though they carried on. Twaddle scored the second goal for Albion just before the call of time. Air Force was unlucky not to win and should have kept up the pressure on Albion instead of taking tbings easily at one period of the game. Albion, with the exccption of Twaddle, Freundlich, Earl and Woodd. could have been defeated by a junior team on the display on Saturday. The teams were: — Air Force: Williams, Hodder, Sprange, Hooton Marshall, Cameron, McKenna. Potter, Jolly, Perry, Layton. Air Force fielded only 10 men. Albion: Woodd, Earl, Halliwell, Parkinson, Nicoll, Holder Mason, Freundlich, Twaddle. Urquhart, Crowe. 1 The referee was Mr. W. Johnston.
