SPREADING OF WEEDS

DANGER FROM LIME BAGS The danger of noxious weeds being spread by lime bags was stressed at the meeting of the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers' Union on Saturday when members were discussing a remit from the Hillsborough branch asking that farmers sending sacks to lime companies be requested to see that they were free from noxious weed seed. It was a matter for the farmers themselves, as they could not ask the lime companies to examine every bag, remarked the chairman, Mr. H. E. Blyde, in 'expressing the opinion that farmers' attention should be drawn to the bad practice of using sacks for gathering ragwort. The danger of seeds getting into lime procured from ragwort infested areas was also stressed. The attention of branches will' be drawn to the matter.
