WELBOURN SCHOOL ENTRY

Albert Mclsaac, a Welbourn schoolboy, had been nominated for the Bayly Memorial Scholarship, reported Miss I. M. Anthony at the Welbourn school committee meeting on Wednesday night. The same boy has been selected for the Taranaki primary school repreesntative Rugby team to play Wanganui at Wanganui on Saturday. The Bayly Scholarship, open to school boys under 14 years 3 months, is awarded annually, the scholarship, valued at £10 a year, being tenable for two years at any secondary school. Although it is a sporting event, boys nominated are required to have atained a certain degree of proficiency in their school work. Miss Anthony reported that the school roll stood at 69 boys and 68 girls. Seventeen pupils had entered for the calfrearing competitions and 10 for the garden plot competitions. A vote of thanks was passed to the Railway Cricket Club for donating cricket gear to the school.
